Internet marketing and information overload

Nowadays, I guess it doesn’t matter where you live, there can’t be many who do not know someone who has suffered hardship as a result of the global financial meltdown. Consequently, it is no surprise that there are an ever-increasing number of people who are considering turning to internet marketing for their livelihood.

In many ways, internet marketing is an ideal business for anyone who is having a hard time. You don’t need a lot of cash to get started as an online marketer, you don’t need a mass of resources or years of experience and you can get started pretty much straight away.

How to start?

Perhaps you have just set out on your internet marketing career or are thinking of doing so and wondering where to turn next?

If so, there is one vital aspect of online business you need to be aware of…

With many years of internet marketing experience under my belt, one of the things that I have seen far too frequently is that almost all would-be online business owners tend to make the same mistakes as those that came before them.

In this article, I want to pinpoint one such internet marketing error that you must avoid at all costs. Believe me, this is a potential ‘business killer’…

The newbie business killer...

The basic concept of internet marketing is that you sell a product or service to someone on the net and get paid for doing so. You might be selling a product to the end consumer online or selling advertising space to a product manufacturer, the basic concept is still that you sell something for cash.

The problem however is that there are thousands of products and services that you could sell and a huge multitude of business systems that you might use to do so.

This might seem like a good thing at first.

After all, choice is a good thing, right?

Well, the answer is ‘yes’ in theory but almost always ‘no’ in practice for online beginners.

The difficulty is that you are faced with an almost overwhelming range and number of choices.

Consequently, it is almost impossible for any internet marketing beginner to know exactly what to do for the best. This is not helped by the fact that every online product creator invariably claims that their product or business system is the best (or the easiest, or the most profitable etc).

It’s called ‘information overload’ and it can kill your business even before it gets off the ground.

So, here’s how you avoid falling into this ‘information overload’ trap.

Firstly, understand that there is no one single product or system that is better than every other. They all have good and bad points, no exceptions.

Also, no matter how many apparently good ideas you encounter, you cannot work 5, 10 or 15 businesses at the same time.

You need to find just one internet marketing business idea that you can comfortably work with and stick with it.

You must do this irrespective of how many ‘next big thing’ ideas you see every time you open your e-mail inbox.

Ignore them and stick with what you are doing. Focus on it 100% and only take action when there is a clear benefit to the business you are already running.

A lack of clear focus and direction is probably the biggest reason why most online beginners fail. It is therefore a mistake you must avoid.

Fortunately, if you pick just one internet marketing model and stick with it, avoiding the ‘killer’ mistake is pretty easy to do…
